Move to The Countryside

By Jinny

There's great difference between the countryside and the city in China. In cities such as Beijing and Shanghai, there are so many people and tall buildings, and the transportation is also convenient. People could go anywhere by car, taxi, subway and the bus. But in the countryside, it's totally different. In addition,  between the city and countryside, there's no house, what you can see is just field or forest. So the issue of wide gap between city and country is more serious in China.

In the past thirty years, the government made great effort to develop the economy, accompanied with which is the trend of people moving form countryside to cities. So the city gets bigger and bigger and the people in the cities are more and more. People go to big cities to pursue for better lives because there are more working opportunities and better public resources. For example, when I was in Beijing, I could study in Beijing library and read books freely. I could also listen to free speech or enjoy a free concert sometimes. But if I had lived in countryside, I would have never had this kind of chance to study or relax. So the city gets bigger and bigger, although it brings some problems such as traffic jams or environment pollutions for people living in the city, it could not stop them to move to the city.

But with the trend moving to the city, there's another trend which is moving to the countryside. According to a survey, there's a small group of people now moving to the countryside, and most of them are rich people. These people tend to flee from noisy cities and live in a place with beautiful scenery, fresh air and relaxed atmosphere. They already get social status and financial freedom, what they also want to get is physical health. And living in countryside could provide them such a good thing.

Although living in countryside has many advantages and some rich people already moved to the countryside, I don't think this could be main trend in the following decades. First, the pubilc resource is scarcity in the countryside. For example, it's inconvenient for people to go somewhere else if they are living in the countryside unless they have a car. But most countryside people are poor so they don't have chance to buy a car. And the website or the electronic communication also fall behind with cities. So people who are used to living in cities could not like living in the countryside. They may think it's inconvenient. Secondly, the competition to work in China is fierce, so most people have to sacrify their health to win better life in the future. There are about six million students graduate from university every year, but the number of working opportunitis is far from being enough for these students. So they have to work very hard to support themselves and theit family. In addition, living in big cities could provide them higher salary and more strong power. Because in big cities, there're a lot of big companies and government institutions, so it's more easier for people to find cooperator and get high salary.

All in all, in my opinion, living in big cities is the first choice for most people in China for the foreseeable future.
