Can
three month old baby know it is right or not? According to the CNN article ‘What
your baby know might freak you out’ by Kelly Wallace says they can think and
know what is wrong and right.
Yale
University’s Infant Cognition Center, known as “the Baby Lab” made the
conclusion quoting from article “babies can actually tell good from evil, even
as young as 3 months old”. Researchers had experiment by showing the puppet
play. In the play there were two teddy bears, green teddy bear and red teddy
bear, and zebra. Zebra tries to open the box and green teddy bear helps zebra,
but red teddy bear interrupt while zebra tried to open the box. By showing this
puppet play, we could know about babies’ reaction of this situation.
More
than 80% of the experiment, babies chosen good puppet that is green teddy bear.
To cover other variable, they changed the role of teddy bear. The red puppet
was helping the zebra and the green teddy bear. However, the result of
experiment was same. They choose the helping puppet, red teddy bear. Even the
babies are very young that they can’t reach and hold the puppet. The babies
show their choice by their eye contact by looking at green teddy bear which
helped zebra more long time. Therefore, the conclusion of this experiment is babies
can judge what is wrong and right.
Based
on this experiment, we could infer that even the babies are young they have judgments
of weather it is wrong or right, because quoting "Humans are born with a
hard-wired morality, a sense of good and evil is bred in the bone," wrote
Paul Bloom, in an opinion piece for CNN.com. Paul bloom said, quoting
"We are naturally moral beings, but our environment can enhance -- or
sadly, degrade -- this innate moral sense,", and the experiment that Yale
university had proven that the babies have moral sense to judge.
After
reading this article, I felt, it is amazing research result, because I haven’t
thought that babies can decide about the morality and I just thought that
babies are learning about it. This article introduce about the research and
whoever reads this article or knows about the article may have to change their
actions especially parents. Babies born with their own thinks, beliefs and judgments
and with that they grow by quoting the article “knowing the world is deep and
dark and bright and beautiful.” We have to help babies to see more beautiful
things and not to forget their judgment
rules.
